Interview Bayernland

“Quality is the key!”
Bayernland eG is a cooperative undertaking that was founded in Nuremberg in 1930. With domestic and export sales of dairy products in excess of 200,000 tons per annum, the company is today one of the leading distributors of dairy products in
Germany. We asked Bayernland Sales Director Frank Kessler about the reasons why his company uses rectangular tubs from SwissPrimePack Ltd..

Frank Kessler, Sales Director Bayernland eG

Mr. Kessler, for which product packaging does Bayernland use the rectangular tub?

There are now 8 different herbs and creams marketed under the “Goldglück and Gut&Günstig” label.

Why does Bayernland use rectangular tubs for these products?

Primarily because of the aesthetics and logistical aspects such as functionality and stackability.

What process is used for the finishing of your rectangular tubs?

Our tubs are printed all around using the photo-realistic dry offset printing process, the so-called FR’Print.

How long have you been using rectangular tubs for product packaging?

In the past our soft cheeses were wrapped in foil and sold in rectangular blocks and wedges. We have been using rectangular tubs since approx. 1982. Over these 25 years the look of the tubs has been repeatedly adapted although the rectangular shape has still been retained today.

Why do you appeal to consumers more with this form of packaging than any other?

First of all, consumers quite simply associate soft cheeses with this shape. In this context, our rectangular tub with its slim, modern shape is particularly appealing. Then there’s the additional factor that the rectangular tub allows us to present the product in a superb way - in our case with high quality printing in attractive colours. Finally, consumers also appreciate the rectangular tub because of its practical use and the fact that the lid makes it easy to reseal.

Why did you choose SwissPrimePack Ltd. to manufacture the rectangular tub?

First and foremost because of the quality. For Bayernland quality is the most important aspect on every level. We are very satisfied with SwissPrimePack Ltd. in this respect. The precision moulding and deep drawing is testimony to the company’s long experience in the production area. There are competitors who manufacture at lower cost but these normally lack the quality and experience in the manufacturing
process. In addition, there are the extremely short lead times: from 0 to 100, in other words from initial discussion to the ready produced tub, the production cycle at SwissPrimePack Ltd. actually takes about three months. That gives us the certainty of knowing that our speed-to-market for any re-launches or new product launches is the best.

But surely the price is crucial isn’t it?

As I said: at Bayernland quality is first and foremost the key. That’s what our customers appreciate about our products and they are prepared to pay the appropriate price for this quality. First of all the quality must be optimum and then we need to offer attractive value for money. That applies both to our products as well as to our packaging supplier SwissPrimePack Ltd..

How is the cooperation working out with SwissPrimePack Ltd.?

Our cooperation is working extremely well. Obviously, the fact that the two companies’ premises are located near to each other is another benefit. But what we also see as positive is the ability of SwissPrimePack Ltd. to supply us with the entire product packaging thanks to the fact that it manufactures the tubs and lids. A total provider who delivers quality perfection – that’s what we’re looking for.

Thank you for the interview
