SwissPrimePack AG invests in the future

June 2010. The merger between the two traditional Swiss companies Albiplast AG and Bellaplast AG to create SwissPrimePack AG in June 2008 has been successfully implemented and, after two years, SwissPrimePack AG is now firmly established in the European plastic packaging market. The company intends to further consolidate this sound starting base through a market-driven approach. The investment activity in the two production sites at Altstätten (headquarters) and Niederuzwil will be consistently increased.

The various investments had already begun in 2009 and will continue unabated throughout 2010. Last year work started on a new medium voltage plant at the Altstätten factory. This significant investment upgraded the power supply plant to a state-of-the-art system and will consequently secure the future power supplies.

Work also pressed ahead on the upgrading of the production site at Niederuzwil. From the expansion of the steam generation for the sleeve systems, to the refrigeration plant through to raw material supplies, the company will be consistently investing in order to increase the plant’s efficiency. Key investments will also be made in the machinery and plant equipment. Over recent months for example four new injection moulding systems have been commissioned into operation. The advanced technology used by these systems will ensure maximum possible reproduction of the manufacturing processes and a significant increase in the process stability: a high level of reliability and, with it, a high level of customer satisfaction, can only be achieved with an efficient and lean manufacturing process.

Other investments in the areas of Supply Chain Management and IT will follow over the months ahead, further strengthening the company’s process-driven approach.

Jan Schürmann, CEO and shareholder of SwissPrimePack AG, gives the reasons for the investments as follows: “We can only believe in a successful future if we also take action now with the future in mind. We owe that to our company as well as in particular to our clients “. As a Swiss manufacturing company the domestic market naturally is and remains of greatest importance to SwissPrimePack AG. However, continued growth in the European markets is another central, strategic objective and this will be the focus for both the headquarters in Altstätten and the sales subsidiaries in France and the UK.

During the course of recent months the company has also set about tackling key new client projects both in the core segments of dairy and ice cream products (industrial packaging) as well as vending cups (service packaging). This development - both in Switzerland as well as in the European market – obviously represents a positive approach, particularly within an economic environment which remains tense and is characterised by major upheaval. This reinforces the aim of SwissPrimePack AG to consistently continue pursuing its chosen path.

The Swiss company SwissPrimePack AG operates in the area of plastic packaging for food and employs around 200 employees at the two locations in Altstätten (SG) and Niederuzwil plus its sales subsidiaries in France and the UK. The company is headed by Jan Schürmann, who is simultaneously a shareholder of the company, which primarily manufactures premium packaging in the areas of ice cream and dairy products (industrial packaging) as well as vending cups for vending machine operators (service packaging).
